A walking safari highlights the African bush at its best: a live, sharp, spine tingling experience that’s hard to beat and very addictive.
Days 1-2 Nkwali Camp You will be met at Mfuwe International Airport and transferred to Nkwali Camp. Offering a choice of short walking safaris and games drives, the activities at Nkwali last around 3-4 hrs and are led by an expert guide. 2 nights at Nkwali. (FB)
Days 3-7 Mobile Camp For the next 5 days, the walking safari follows the Mupamadzi River, covering approximately 10km a day. This northern area is remote and wild, the terrain and habitats varied and the game shy and unused to man. From ants to buffalo, a bird’s nest to tracking lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush. The fully serviced mobile camp is extremely comfortable and well equipped with walk in tents and full bedding, bucket showers and long drop toilets. 5 nights Mobile Camp. (FB)
Days 8-10 Tena Tena Camp Transfer by road to the Luangwa River crossing point, which is a 4-5 hour drive. Your final few nights in the Nsefu sector of the park, complete your safari experience. Tena Tena is a very relaxing safari camp with 5 large tents, each with a dressing room and open air bathroom overlooking a water hole. Most meals are taken under the shade of a huge Mahogany tree in the centre of the camp. 3 nights at Tena Tena. (FB)
Day 11 Transfer by vehicle to Mfuwe Airport, approximately 1 hour drive from Tena Tena.
Walking in the bush is totally different to game viewing from a vehicle - and is not for everyone. If you want to ‘tick off’ big-game animals, photograph them from close quarters and swiftly go from one large herd of game to the other, then walking is not for you.
