Queensland's 3,000 kilometres of outback is almost as famous as the
folk song it gave birth to - Waltzing Matilda.
This is the land of the
baked ochre red earth that seems to stretch forever and where men
scratched a living and forged lifelong friendships. Their stories and
exploits can still be heard in bars and historic towns along the
Matilda Highway. The outback is not as dry as you may think and there
are numerous rivers that beckon you to swim or fish and near Mount
Surprise there are vast acres of tropical savannah.
