Kangaroo Island split from the mainland during the last ice age and now
has plants and animals which sadly, you won’t find anywhere else.30%
of the island is protected to preserve this heritage and consequently
native species thrive. You’ll find echidnas, possums and platypus as
well as kangaroos, wallabies and koalas. Seals and dolphins frolic
along the coastline and at Seal Bay you can actually walk among the sea
lions. The island is also noted for its geological oddities and many of
the rocks have been eroded into dramatic shapes. Some, which rise above
the sea, are aptly called Remarkable Rocks and no visit to the island
would be complete without seeing them.
