Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver
Board the Rocky Mountaineer for a memorable journey through the impressive Rockies. Following in the footsteps of the early pioneers, this route retraces the trails of the 19th century explorers who united Canada from east to west. The train only travels during daylight hours, ensuring you see the magnificent mountainscapes outside your window. Travel over the Continental Divide and climb through the Spiral Tunnels.
Enter Rogers Pass, with its tunnels, snowsheds and glistening glaciers and pass Craigellachie, where the Last Spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. Continue west along the South Thompson River through vast ranchlands to Kamloops.
1 night: Kamloops
The following day, see the thundering waters of Hell’s Gate and the towering peaks of the Coast Mountains after entering Fraser Canyon. Carry on through the fertile fields of the Fraser Valley into Vancouver.
Vancouver
Explore the relaxed, waterfront city of Vancouver. Stroll through Stanley Park or explore the cultural and culinary delights of Granville Island. Cross the Capilano Suspension Bridge or perhaps indulge in some retail therapy on Robson Street. A seaplane flight is a must so we have included a trip to Victoria for a bird’s eye view of the Gulf Islands and a whale watching experience to make the most of your time here. If you are in Vancouver on a Saturday you can enjoy a fantastic day of tastings and food and wine pairings just under an hour away from the city. Stay at L’Hermitage Hotel - it has an excellent location on Robson Street and offers a boutique experience with just 60 rooms and suites.

Vancouver to Port Hardy
Fly north to the tip of Vancouver Island and Port Hardy for the start of a remarkable adventure in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest. Leave behind the noise and structures of modern life for a remote region that really does put the wild into wilderness. Your mode of transport is by seaplane, which flies low over the breathtaking scenery of the central coast and the rich waters of Queen Charlotte Strait, the home of orca, grey and humpback whales. Great Bear Lodge is a floating, wind and solar powered retreat with just five bedrooms and the perfect place from which to share the natural environment of the grizzly bear, grey wolves, black bears, otter and bald eagles. Over the next four days you will get to enjoy an intimate bear viewing programme both on terra firma and from the water, that will leave you with enormous respect and appreciation for this giant of the wilderness.

Port Hardy to Vancouver
Your return to civilisation from Great Bear Lodge is late afternoon so an overnight stay in Port Hardy will be necessary. The next day fly back to Vancouver or perhaps continue your journey through British Columbia with a cruise through the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert, here you can join the Skeena train bound for Jasper, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.
