Indochina and Thailand

Highlights of Vietnam and Cambodia > Eastern and Oriental Express

4 Day/3 Night Journey

Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Si Satchanalai - Lampang - Bangkok

Evoke memories of a by-gone era and experience luxury train travel at its most opulent as you step on board the Eastern & Oriental Express. Gleaming carriages, a quarter of a mile in length, are full of diversions from the lavishly appointed sleeping compartments to the open decked Observation Car. Dine on Eastern and European flavours complemented by fine wines and impeccable service and be transported back in time as you enjoy cocktails and piano music in the Bar Car.

Day 1 Thailand
As you leave Bangkok and travel north through Thailand’s magnificent landscape, take time to settle into your compartment or marvel at the ever-changing scenery from the Observation Car. Afternoon tea will be served as you journey through Northern Thailand. After a sumptuous dinner, share cocktails and stories with your fellow passengers before retiring to your compartment, which your steward will have prepared for a wonderful nights sleep.

Day 2 Chiang Mai
After breakfast arrive in Chiang Mai where you will disembark. If you are continuing on the E&O a delightful day lies ahead. Perhaps join a city tour, visit an elephant camp and take a ride or browse the handicraft workshops and boutiques. After lunch return to the train for afternoon tea. Another fine dinner will be served and new friend can be made over drinks in the bar.

Day 3 Si Satchanalai & Lampang
After breakfast today you will be transported to Si Satchanalai. Here explore the 13th century Buddhist temples in the northernmost citadel of the ancient Khmer empire. After a delicious lunch back on board arrive in Lampang for a  horse-drawn carriage ride to Baan Sao Nok “the house of many pillars”. Back on board prepare for dinner and overnight journey back to Bangkok.

Day 4 Bangkok
Arrive in Bangkok after breakfast where your journey ends.
