5 Nights Poets Corner Lodge – Waihi

Poets Corner Lodge is a luxury boutique lodge with amazing coastal views. The Lodge offers four super/king rooms with ensuites, large lounge/dinning and full kitchen. Wake to the sound of the native birds or the sea rolling in at OrokawaBay. A place to relax and enjoy the hospitality which John and Marg provide.

Day 1 (D)
Arrive at Poets Corner Lodge. Relax in the spectacular surroundings before enjoying an evening meal at Poets Corner Lodge.

Day 2 - Discover Waihi (B)
After a delicious breakfast at Poets Corner Lodge travel into Waihi and start the day with a mine tour. Waihi is a gold mining town with an active open cast mine right in the middle of town. Learn about Waihi’s rich mining history and mining today. Take a walk in the famous Karangahake Gorge and lunch at Ohinamuri winery. In the afternoon discover Waihi beach. That evening dine at one of the many local restaurants.

Day 3 - Half Day Harley Davidson Coromandel Tour
A splendid half day of cruising on the spectacular Pacific Coast Highway around the lower half of the CoromandelPeninsula. The mountain backbone of the peninsula is made up of rugged volcanic peaks and steep gorges shrouded in dense native bush. The morning is spent cruising through the amazing Karangahake Gorge, up to Thames and then taking the 25A across the centre of the CoromandelPeninsula, a fantastic ride along a winding road going up and over the CoromandelRanges. We drop down to Hikuai and then finish our trip back to Waihi hugging the coastline of the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula, taking in the stunning coastal scenery, unrivalled beaches and dramatic views on this fantastic drive through the winding roads of the Coromandel, with a visit to Whitianga or Whangamata Beach on the way back to Waihi.

Day 4 - Magic of the Bay of Plenty Tour with Kiwi Dundee (B,L)
Your Kiwi Dundee Adventure Guide will take you on a delightful day including a great chance to experience the local life way of life in this progressive region of New Zealand.Your day will include a visit to a genuine working horticultural orchard with kiwifruit, avocados and export flowers - a fascinating glimpse at one of New Zealand’s major export industries. A Stop at the mural town of Katikati, famous for its open-air art painted by top New Zealand artists. Enjoy the variety of little shops including locally made art and crafts. Jan from Kiwi Dundee Adventures received a medal from Queen Elizabeth for her work here.A delicious gourmet lunch at a local winery. In the northern Bay of Plenty we visit Waihi beach for some wonderful photography from an old Maori Pa site looking out over the whole Bay. To complete this day of variety, wonderful scenery, a visit to Mt Maunganui to walk on the golden sand beach of this wonderful surfing beach with its volcano and off-shore islands before returning to your luxury accommodation to continue your New Zealand holiday, where your Kiwi Dundee Guide will bid you a sad farewell.

Day 5 - Free Day (B)
This day is free for you to do as much or as little as you desire. Sit back and relax with a good book at Poets Corner or maybe you might like to revisit one of the many exciting places you experienced on your day tours.

If you feel the need for exercise we recommend you do the coastal walk from Homunga Bay to Waihi beach. This is a spectacular 10km coastal walk which starts over farm land, then past rocky cliff faces, on to Orokawa Bay, through the bush and on to WaihiBeach. Your hosts would drop you off and pick you up and organise a lovely picnic lunch.

Day 6 (B)
After a delicious breakfast it is time to bid you farewell and continue on your journey.

Be picked up by helicopter from Poets Corner Lodge for an exciting day tour to New Zealand’s most unusual Volcano, “TUHUA’ (MayorIsland) Our ½ day guided tramping tour through one of New Zealand’s largest Pohutukawa forests. Reon, the guide will take you to the Devils Staircase, The stronghold where tribe would defend the island in battle.Then visit the “Big Tree” this massive pohutukawa specimen has a girth exceeding 11 meters and is regarded as one of New Zealand’s biggest and oldest Pohutukawa trees.

You will see and hear many of our native birds including nectar-feeding bellbirds and tui, wood pigeons, morepork, fantail, kaka (brown parrot), grey warbler, waxeye, kingfisher and, soaring on the thermals, the harrier hawk. The island is also home to the Kiwi bird. A Bird watchers paradise.

For the more energetic we can customise a full day tour to include the diving, kayaking, or an extended trek into the crater and RuruPass.
