Further south-west Mount Taranaki, with its snowy top, dominates the landscape and is as memorable and awe inspiring as the silver and black beaches and magnificent parks and gardens around New Plymouth.

The rural landscapes of Waikato and Taranaki come to life in spring and the rhododendrons burst into bloom for the annual Rhododendron Festival. Summer is the perfect time to hit the west coast waves for a surf and as winter approaches, in Taranaki you can ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon.
