The largest city in South Island, Christchurch is a city of contrasts.

Often known as the 'Garden City', Christchurch is renowned for it expansive parks, tree lined avenues and grey stone buildings. Take a ride on the tram, punt on the river or for a birds eye view, take a trip on the gondola. Banks Peninsula, just south of Christchurch boasts beautiful bays and rolling hills. Akaroa is a picturesque village and New Zealands only French settlement. Here you can take to the water for a chance to spot dolphins.

Canterbury is home to a much drier climate than areas on the South Island's west coast.
