Fiordland is designated World Heritage Area that embraces some of the most wild and dramatic scenery in New Zealand and which is known as the ‘sightseeing and walking capital of the world’.
Here you will be stunned by huge waterfalls, steep sided fiords,
ancient rainforest clinging to mountainsides, shimmering lakes and
granite peaks. Perhaps the region’s best known landmark is the
spectacular Milford Sound with the majestic and often photographed
Mitre Peak. The township of Te Anau on the shore of Lake Te Anau makes
a great base for sightseeing or exploring the numerous walking trails.
Its fine restaurants, cafes and bars are a welcome respite for weary
limbs.
