6 night itinerary - Action and Adventure in Marlborough
Day 1: Arrive
at Sennen House. Relax & enjoy your
complimentary bottle of Marlborough wine before strolling into town for a meal.
Day 2: Swimming with the Dolphins Swimming
with dolphins and viewing them in their underwater world is the adventure
experience of a lifetime and one that you'll never forget!!! Departing
Picton at 8am you will cruise in the sheltered calm waters of the scenic
Marlborough Sounds. Help search for dusky dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, common
dolphins and even rare Hector's dolphins that frequent this amazing area.
Whether it's watching a group quietly cruising along or marveling at their high
leaps, back-flips, somersaults and side-slaps during social bouts, dolphins are
sure to please all. Our Dept. of
Conservation permit allows us to seek out and interact with all species of
marine mammals that live in the Sounds.
During the cruise, we're likely to see NZ fur seals, a variety of
seabirds (like gannets, shearwaters and penguins) and may even be fortunate
enough to encounter orca as they occasionally pass through the area.
Once
spotted, we’ll cruise with the dolphins and get the swimmers ready if
conditions allow. As a permitted
operator, we abide by the rules and regulations established for dolphin
swimming and viewing activities. If
conditions are good, then we’ll place swimmers in the water for the adventure
of a lifetime! Unlike other dolphin
swimming operations around New Zealand where several boats are on the same
group of dolphins, we are Picton's only Dolphin Swimming operator - that means
we're the only boat with swimmers in the water with a group of dolphins -
THAT'S IT....NO OTHER SWIMMERS.....NOBODY ELSE!!! We're also fortunate enough to operate in an area of little to no
sea swell - meaning seasickness is rarely an issue for our guests. Wetsuits, fins, masks and snorkels are
provided free of charge. If you're not
keen on swimming with the dolphins, then join this tour for some fantastic
dolphin viewing from above.
Day 3: Cruise & Walk Departing
Picton at 9am with Cougar Line you will cruise to Resolution Bay to start your
10km walk. This gentle walk traverses
native forest over a low saddle offering a spectacular vantage point for the
photographer. The gradual descent curls along the shoreline to historic
Furneaux Lodge. Spend
the afternoon relaxing at Furneaux Lodge.
Enjoy lunch or a cold drink at the legendary Furneaux Bar. You will be collected at 4.30pm by Cougar
Line to return to Picton.NB:
Longer and shorter walks are available.
Day 4: Drive to Blenheim Today you head
down to the wine region of Blenheim. You
may like to visit Edwin Fox Museum where you can walk right into the hulk of
the ship before departing Picton. You
may like to take the scenic Queen Charlotte Drive via Havelock to Blenheim
where there will be many photo opportunities. Arrive
at The Peppertree where you can stroll around the lovely garden planted with
New Zealand native trees and soak up the birdsong, fresh air and relaxing
atmosphere.
Built in 1886 and registered under the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, this magnificent 2-storey villa is one of Picton’s original colonial homesteads. Extensively restored in keeping with its gracious style and era, Sennen House offers guests a truly unique and authentic boutique accommodation experience. The Peppertree luxury bed and breakfast is located on 10 acres of lush farmland near Blenheim, New Zealand in the heart of the Marlborough wine region and is surrounded by an extensive country garden, a boutique vineyard and olive grove. Built in 1901 from native timbers, it takes its name from the grove of Pepper Trees (Schinus molle) which line the drive leading to the gracious Edwardian Villa.
Day 5: Bike the Vines Our
mission is to make your day as enjoyable as possible. A minivan will pick you
up from your accommodation in the morning and take you to our starting point.
The wine cycle tour is designed to cover about 10km of very easy flat riding.
The off road riding through the vineyards and along the stop-banks is across
hard packed earth covered with grass or gravel and is easy to bike by all skill
levels.Along
the way we visit:
- Grove
Mill Winery - who not only have a great selection of wines but also a stunning
wetland which has become a haven for native birdlife and one of the region's
best contemporary art galleries
- Seresin
Estate - an organic winery and olive oil producer owned by renowned NZ
cinematographer Michael Seresin
- Wairau
River Winery where we enjoy a long slow lunch in their award-winning restaurant
- Bladen
Winery - a small boutique family run winery.
- After

pick you up at 9.30am and drive out along the Wairau plains to the coast and
across to Whites Bay. This sheltered little bay is a Department of Conservation
reserve and is surrounded by native bush. The walk starts in the car park and
winds up a gently climbing track through native bush up onto the ridgeline and
out onto the cliffs. From the cliff top the views are stunning down to Port
Underwood and out across Cook Strait. We walk back down to the Bay where we
