Queenstown
Named because it was ‘fit for Queen Victoria’, Queenstown, located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, has something to offer the visitor all year round.
 
Queenstown is a place of outstanding beauty with the lake in the foreground, the Remarkables mountains in the background and a carpet of green in-between. In summer the town attracts golfers, anglers and thrill seekers. Queenstown is the home of bungy jumping and is well known for its white water rafting and jet boating. In winter the town turns into an alpine playground and attracts skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. In the 19th century the area would have been better known for its gold mining and just a 20 minute drive away is the preserved mining town of Arrowtown with its tree lined street and dinky cottages.

Queenstown is a resort that can be enjoyed in all four seasons. Long summer days are perfect for walking and wine tours whilst the autumn colours bring out the photographers and golfers. Winter transforms Queenstown into an alpine playground for skiers and snowboarders alike and as the snow melts, spring is the perfect time to head out on the lake.

Winter in Queenstown is magical with snow capped mountains and clear blue skies. Temperatures seldom reach higher than 7°C and often fall below zero although up on the mountain the sun can still feel quite warm. As the spring showers arrive, temperatures increase to between 8°C and 15°C although the weather can be changeable. Long hot summer days can be enjoyed between January and March and, as autumn begins, the temperatures can really vary falling below zero but then rising to around 25°C, so be prepared for all weathers!
