Places not to miss are The Blue Pools,  Punakaiki, Lake Matheson and Buller Gorge.

There is plenty to do on the West Coast whatever time of year you travel. The glaciers are accessible all year round although winter is a more leisurely and uncrowded time. For food lovers, spring is whitebait season, a West Coast delicacy, or visit during the famous Wildfoods Festival held in Hokitika every March.

The West Coast is considered one of the wettest regions of New Zealand although dry spells do occur mainly in late summer and during the winter months. Summers are mild with maximum air temperatures ranging from 17°C to 22°C and winter days often start with frost with temperatures rising to between 10°C and 14°C.
