Located on the southern shores of Lake Wanaka, where the still waters reflect the snow capped peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park, is the township of Wanaka. With the wilderness all around you Wanaka is a haven for shops, cafes and great restaurants. It has its own brewery and a number of excellent vineyards are all close by. The town is a natural centre for hikers, mountain bikers and skiers and throughout the year hosts many festivals including the biggest air show in the Southern Hemisphere, Warbirds Over Wanaka.

Wanaka is a resort for all seasons where outdoor adventure and pursuits can be enjoyed year round. Winter sports are out of this world with world-class ski fields and heli-skiing, Wanaka often plays host to some fantastic winter sporting competitions. As the snow melts, skis are swapped for walking boots and when summer arrives head out on to the lake with swimming, boating, kayaking and water skiing all available. Autumn brings a kaleidoscope of colour with pleasant daily temperatures perfect for a stroll along the lake.

Crisp but sunny winter days from June to August bring average daily temperatures of around 10°C, which end in cold frosty sub-zero nights. Summer days, in contrast, are long and hot with average temperatures of 23°C, although temperatures can often climb into the mid 30s.
