A visit to the glaciers in southern Patagonia must surely rank alongside that to the Iguazú Falls in terms of the sheer scale and size of nature’s forms of expression.The Patagonian Continental Ice is a gigantic mass that in some places becomes glaciers with the easiest to access being the Perito Moreno and the Upsala. Most visitors to the glaciers stay in the nearby charming El Calafate, which now boasts an international airport and is the main departure point for all the tours in the region. Four hours north west of El Calafate is the small village of El Chaltén, which lies at the foot of the legendry Mount Fitz Roy. El Chaltén is the starting point walkers and climbers to enjoy the breathtaking views and hikes in this extraordinary beautiful mountain landscape.

To be able to travel safely and enjoy the Patagonian landscape, the best time is summer, between the months of December and March, although this excludes the snow lovers.

In general, the Patagonian climate is moderate with well-defined seasons. However, the autumn and spring are short while winters are long and there are substantial temperature differences between summer and winter, as well as a between day and night. The average winter temperature is -2ºC and the maximum summer temperature can reach 40ºC in the Rio Negro High Valley area.
