fact file
Best times to go:
The best time to visit depends upon your personal preference. The low water season from July to November is one of the best times to visit if you prefer less rain, less mosquitoes and if you are interested in aquatic life, fishing or swimming. The best period for viewing wildlife, in the Manaus region, is March to June; the weather is also a little cooler so better for touring. Some people prefer the transitional periods of October and November and May and June to visit the Amazon, since these months may have the advantages of the rainy and dry seasons. The December to February period can have many rainy days, and that can spoil many visits to the Amazon. |

Despite the popular image of the Amazon as a region of blistering heat, temperatures of more than 32°C are rarely experienced. In fact, the annual average temperature in the Amazon region is in the range of 22 to 26°C, with only a very small seasonal variation between the warmest and the coldest months. Brazil's most intense rainfall is found near the city of Belém, and also in the vast upper regions of Amazônia where more than 78 inches falls every year. |
