Best times to go:
Most travellers consider the warm summer months, December to February, to be the best time to visit southern Chile. However, winds are also the strongest during these months. October/ November and March/April typically have slightly lower temperatures, but also less wind so this can also be a good time to visit. During the winter months of May-September as most trails are closed in southern Chile and waterways are iced over. Travellers visiting northern Chile, such as the Atacama Desert or Easter Island, can travel year round.

The north can be visited year round however heavy rain can cause problems between December and February. The months of June to September should be avoided in the centre and South unless you plan to ski. Peak summer season is January and February but the weather is often just as good in November, December and March and benefits from being less busy with lower rates,
