The Galapagos
Galapagos Islands
The Galápagos Islands are renowned for their unique wildlife and are a mecca for divers.
Ecuador claimed the Galápagos islands in 1832, three years before their most famous visitor, Charles Darwin, dropped anchor on the Beagle and stepped ashore into history. Swim with sealions, float eye-to-eye with penguins or stand beside a blue-footed booby as it feeds its young - all within a beautiful barren, volcanic landscape.

In the Galápagos wildlife is present year-round, with each month having its own particular high point from the green sea turtle eggs hatching in April to the first young waved albatrosses fledging in December. Climate:
The Galapagos have a two-season climate influenced by the Humboldt current and the Panama flow. During the cool season from July to December, the Humboldt current assisted by brisk southeast winds cools the sea and forms the garau mist. Temperatures are around 22ºC with sea temperatures dipping as low as 16ºC. In the warm season from January to June, the winds die and the Panama flow returns, warming the seas and dissipating the mist. Temperatures can reach 30ºC and sea temperatures range from 20ºC to 26ºC. The Islands are relatively dry all year but during the warm season short and heavy downpours break the sunny skies, in the cool season skies are often overcast, though little rain falls.
