Situated within a 5000-acre private ecological reserve,
Sacha Lodge in an accessible yet pristine rainforest sanctuary where you can
enjoy a true jungle experience in safety and comfort. The adventure starts with
a 25 minute flight from Quito over the magestic
snow-covered Andes to the port town of Puerto Francisco
and then a 2 hour trip down the Napo on a
motorised canoe to Sacha Lodge. During the ride shorebirds such as herons,
kingfishers, spoonbills and ospreys can easily be spotted as you travel away
from civilisation.
As you would expect, once at the lodge you are spoilt for
choice for ways to view the flora and fauna. Daily activities are spread out
over a wide area and allow visitors to explore several distinct but equally
fascinating habitats. For adventurous souls, the day does not necessarily end
with dinner. Night walks and canoe trips, with the aid of flashlights, often
reveal creatures seldom seen during daylight. Added to this the new addition to
Sacha's activities is a 275 metre long canopy walkway. At approximately 94 feet
above the ground, you can explore the rainforest up in the treetops offering an
unbelievable opportunity to spot dozens of animals and epiphytes seldom seen
from the ground.
Cabins at the lodge are carefully designed to
offer comfort yet preserving the environment and rainforest ambiance. All benefit
from a private bathroom, insect screens, ceiling fans and hot water yet are
constructed with traditional materials and nestle, well concealed, into their
lush surroundings. |
