Declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO, the White City of Arequipa is filled with beautiful convents, temples and old grand Colonial houses.
Arequipa also holds a gastronomic wealth, a mixture of native Pre-Columbian products and modern day culinary techniques. The scenery of the city is simply amazing, surrounded by snow-capped volcanoes and impossibly blue skies. Nearby lies the Colca Canyon, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, where majestic condors soar and many traditions live on in the high Andes.

Each year on 15th August there is a city-wide party celebrating the day Garcí Manuel de Carbajal settled the city in 1540. It is a great time to see Arequipa if you want to mix with the locals. Colca Canyon springs to life in its rainy season with flowers and greenery but the best time to see the birds is it’s dry season.

Officially Arequipa’s dry season falls between the months of June to September. That said, its so-called rainy season doesn’t actually bring very much rain as Arequipa averages over 300 days of sunshine every year. Colca however, has a rainy season from January to April and from May to December is the cold, dry season.
