Where in Tahiti?
Society Islands: The best known is Tahiti, gateway to the islands for most. Her smaller, sister island, Moorea, is just a short scenic flight or catamaran ride away and offers breathtaking scenery with vivid turquoise lagoons and emerald clad hills. Bora Bora, the classic southseas paradise, is set on one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world. Huahine lies in the Leeward isles and is 2 islands - Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti. The islands boast gorgeous white beaches, magnificent indented bays and are a nature lover’s paradise. Raiatea and Taha’a share a lagoon and again offer a true bounty of breathtaking land and seascapes. Raiatea is known as the ‘sacred island’ and is the birthplace of the Polynesian gods. Taha’a is often known as the ‘vanilla isle’ and now boasts what is arguably one of the finest hotels in the South Pacific.
Tuamotu Islands: Comprised of 76 islands and atolls, each of which is a coral necklace surrounding a central lagoon, the Tuamotu’s offer a different experience to the Society Islands. Renowned for fabulous diving we have selected two of the islands, Manihi and Tikehau for you to choose from. Manihi is one of a chain of islets and the lagoon has an exceptionally high quality of flora, fauna and underwater life. Tikehau is almost circular and offers an isolated, yet idyllic, experience.
Marquesas Islands: The most northerly archipelago offers an almost unreal contrast. Jagged mountain peaks shrouded in rainforest, flow into tumbling waterfalls, which in turn fall to sheer cliff edge. The islands are not set within protective coral lagoons and the coastline is filled with deeply indented coves and rugged cliffs. A visit to the Marquesas Islands, whether an extended stay or as part of a cruise will be a spiritual and cultural respite to the ‘beach’ expectations of Tahiti. We have packages on both Niku Hiva and Hiva Oa.
