Further Highlights
Malaysia is another cultural stopover - fundamentally Malay, but overlaid with Indian, Chinese and British influences. There are many indigenous tribes people also such as the Iban, Negrito and Penan.

Visa Information
UK nationals will require a valid passport, but not a visa for stays of up to 3 months.

Weather
Malaysia has a tropical climate without extremely high temperatures. The main rainy season is between November and February on the east coast, however rainfall differs on the west coast, where the wettest month is August.

Transports
There is a good travel network of buses, commuter trains, light rail transits, taxis and ferries.
There is a new international airport in Sepang, and is surrounded by the four main cities of Kuala Lumpar, Shah Alam, Serembam and Malacca.

Currency
The currency in Malaysia is the Ringgit Malaysia (RM).

Health, Hygiene and Safety
Water from the tap can be drunk in Malaysia, although bottled water is generally better.

Vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B are recommended as a cautionary measure.

The hospitals in Kuala Lumpur and other cities are of a high standard, travel insurance is recommended.
Not really a safety measure, but women’s dress should be fairly conservative, as it is a Muslim country, and during the month of Ramadan, drinking smoking and eating in public places should be avoided as it their custom.
