Las Vegas is the city of fabulous entertainment – try your luck in the
casinos and watch some fantastic shows. 2 nights: Las Vegas
Day 2 Las Vegas Round
the clock amusement, wining and dining, and relaxing at the poolside of
your hotel are what this city is all about. Visiting the many 'themed'
hotels, from ancient Egypt to present-day New York and Paris, is an
excursion event in itself. Stroll along the Strip to soak up the
colourful and amazing spectacles of these hotels.
Day 3 Las Vegas - Zion National Park 170
miles. Collect your car rental and head across the Nevada border,
crossing briefly into Arizona, before taking a scenic drive into Utah
towards the unique dramatic landscape of Zion National Park. Desert
terrain and sculpted rock formations coexist with deep canyons,
waterfalls and hanging gardens. A regular shuttle bus operates along the
6 mile Zion Canyon Scenic Drive providing access to stunning viewpoints
and walking trails. Be sure to take a stroll along the gushing Virgin
River or hike among the towering sandstone cliffs. Overnight: Zion National Park
Day 4 Zion - Bryce Canyon National Park 80
miles. Meander along the Mount Carmel Scenic Byway, winding through
rocks and canyon walls and driving through some of the most beautiful
scenery. Continue past ranches, farms, small towns and dense forest on
your way to Bryce Canyon. This national park is renowned for some of the
earth’s most colourful erosion formations where the pinnacles and
spires seem almost fragile. Drive or take the park shuttle to several
viewpoints and wrap up warm to watch the sunset this evening. Overnight: Bryce Canyon
Day 5 Bryce Canyon - Lake Powell 90
miles. Sunrise at Bryce Canyon is magical. Before the sun gets too
strong, take one of the loop trails down into the canyon for a chance to
see the soaring spires from a different perspective and walk among the
beautiful stone monuments. This afternoon, drive east until you see the
deep blue waters of Lake Powell glistening in the distance. 2 nights: Lake Powell
Day 6 Lake Powell Enjoy
a relaxing day among spectacular red rock towers, rivers, intriguing
canyons and varied wildlife. With almost 2000 miles of shoreline, Lake
Powell has numerous secluded beaches for swimming, boating, water sports
and fishing. Boat tours are also available, choose from a short cruise
to Glen Canyon Dam, along narrow waterways and through towering rocks,
or take a full-day cruise to Rainbow Bridge National Monument, the
tallest natural bridge in the world. Overnight: Lake Powell
Day 7 Lake Powell - Monument Valley 125
miles. Travel through Navajo Nation and western landscapes to the
massive red rocks of Monument Valley, made famous by John Wayne and
western movies. This is one of the most photographed places in the USA –
an overwhelming flat landscape is interrupted by striking red rock
spires rising hundreds of feet into the air. This afternoon we recommend
taking a guided tour along the 17-mile loop road past mesas, buttes and
gigantic sandstone masterpieces. Overnight: Monument Valley
Day 8 Monument Valley - Grand Canyon 185
miles. Drive west towards the impressive Little Colorado River Gorge
and perhaps stop at one of the scenic viewpoints along the way. Travel
through the Kaibab National Forest and into the east entrance of Grand
Canyon National Park. Follow the narrow winding road alongside the
awesome canyon, past scenic lookouts, to Grand Canyon Village. Overnight: Grand Canyon
Day 9 Grand Canyon National Park Today
travel along the rim in a free shuttle bus and explore this beautiful
phenomenon and enjoy the many dramatic viewpoints or walk along the rim
for fabulous views. The IMAX theatre shows an interesting film on the
history of the canyon or to gain a better perspective of this vast
natural wonder and the mighty Colorado River, an optional helicopter
tour is highly recommended. Later, ensure that you catch the changing
colours of the canyon walls as the sun sets.
Day 10 Grand Canyon - Williams - Las Vegas 285
miles. Journey back to Las Vegas, where you will travel through the
rustic town of Williams, located on Route 66. Continuing west, you may
wish to leave the highway and drive along part of this historic road,
